Legal Support Services

If you are interested in entering the legal industry, but you do not want to commit to law school, you may consider legal support services, which offers job opportunities for legal secretaries, paralegals or other similar professions. Read on to explore education and career options in this field.

Inside Legal Support Services

Many legal support workers share some of the same responsibilities. Legal secretaries and paralegals prepare legal documents, contracts and other agreements, as well as conducting research and legal transcription. Another type of transcription is court reporting. Court reporters transcribe court proceedings, and they may also work outside legal services transcribing other events, such as media broadcasts, sales presentations and athletic events.

Legal support workers should have knowledge in legal terminology, familiarity with computers and understanding of the area of law in which they are working. Some positions may involve social interaction, which can require being considerate and upholding certain ethics. Court reporters should have expertise in audio technology and stenotype court reporting machines.
