Communications systems send electronic data over transmission lines from one place to another. It is a way of communicating via radios, telecommunications systems, computers and phones through networks, fiber optics, satellites or radio and TV stations.

A variety of careers are available in this field, ranging from servicing, repairing and maintaining radios, phones and computers to managing network, fiber optics and cable systems. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), telecommunications technicians may work both indoors and outdoors, often working on rooftops and telephone poles in all kinds of weather (www.bls.gov).
