Education Information

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), to work as an avionics maintenance mechanic, one must have an associate's or bachelor's degree from a technician school for aviation mechanics (www.bls.gov). The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) must certify the school. In these programs, students gain hands-on experience and can expect to take courses in aircraft electrical systems, wiring practices, power tools, linear circuits and digital systems. Alternatively, an aspiring avionics mechanic may complete a certain number of work experience hours in place of formal education.
