Speech-Language Pathology

Speech-language pathology is a field that aims to improve the lives of those with communication disorders. Pathologists help clients overcome problems related to pronunciation, language fluency and swallowing. Read on to learn more about preparing for a career in this field.

Inside Speech-Language Pathology

A degree program in speech-language pathology prepares students to diagnose and treat speaking and hearing impediments, learning disabilities and communication disorders. People in the field apply their expertise in educational and medical settings, usually functioning as specialized teachers or therapists.

Speech-language pathologists have a mixed interest in education and healthcare, since communication and learning problems can stem from physical, physiological and neurological challenges, such as strokes, head injuries, deafness and dyslexia, among other issues.
