EMT Ambulance

Emergency medical service workers are authorized to provide pre-hospital urgent care and transportation in an ambulance for individuals who require additional medical assistance. If you're interested in pursuing this occupation, read on to explore training and career options.

Inside Ambulance Emergency Medicine

Ambulance EMTs provide medical care to patients, usually at the site of emergencies, in both urgent and non-urgent situations. If necessary, an EMT is also responsible for transporting a patient to a hospital for further medical treatment and using the ambulance's radio to communicate with the medical staff at the intended destination.

EMTs are expected to work long hours or be on call, since a medical emergency can happen at any time. The nature of the work can be unpredictable as well. Some days an ambulance crew might see several patients during a shift, while others might wait for hours between calls. Like all medical treatment occupations, an EMT must be able to keep precise patient care records and give an in-depth report during the transfer of care.
