Education and Certification Information

According to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), those who aspire to be certified medication aides should become CNAs, complete a NCSBN-approved medication aide program and pass the associated competency exam (www.ncsbn.org). Completing a state-approved program and passing a related competency exam are also required. Both programs include classroom study and practicum components. Coursework includes classes such as science, body mechanics, communication, safety, medication administration and ethical and legal issues.
