Education Information

The student who wishes to pursue a career in medical illustration first needs to obtain a bachelor's degree, preferably with concentrations in science and art. Available degrees include a bachelor's in scientific illustration, biomedical art or pre-medical illustration. After completion of the bachelor's degree, a 2-year master's program in medical illustration is the next step. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs should accredit the master's program. According to the Association of Medical Illustrators (www.ami.org), the majority of medical illustrators have such a degree.
