Inside Nursing for Adults and Seniors

Nurses who specialize in adult or senior care are commonly referred to as geriatric nurses, adult nurse practitioners or adult-gerontology nurses. They perform a wide range of duties that may consist of distributing medication, providing physician assistance, performing examinations, providing pre or post-operative care and providing guidance and comfort to patient family members.

Nurses who provide care for senior citizens can work in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, community health centers and assisted living facilities, or they may provide care through a home healthcare agency. Those who specialize in adult patients often work at long-term healthcare facilities, doctor offices, hospitals and a variety of health agencies.
