Veterinary Physiology

Veterinary physiology is the scientific investigation of animals' biological systems, along with how these systems operate. Individuals with graduate studies in veterinary physiology may complete research for the advancement of animal medicine.

Inside Veterinary Physiology

Courses and programs in veterinary physiology (VP) teach students about the form and function of animals and their bodily processes. Veterinary physiology courses familiarize students with the anatomy and physiology, or functions, of animals to diagnose and treat disease and dysfunctions. Programs may include the study of how animals absorb and use nutrients and how they synthesis organic molecules, as well as how organs, tissues and other bodily structures work.

Education Information

At the undergraduate level, education in veterinary physiology is commonly found as classes within bachelor's degree programs in animal and veterinary sciences or animal physiology. Programs of this type may prepare students for graduate studies in physiology, veterinary medicine, human medicine or advanced degrees in areas such as physiology, zoology or pharmacology. Graduates may find positions in a research lab or with a museum, publishing house or a public relations firm.
