Positions available through the federal government, such as in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will vary due to annual budget changes.
Employment of foresters and conservation scientists is projected to grow three percent during the same time period. Opportunities may be more plentiful in the Western and Southwestern regions of the country due to land restoration projects.
According to the BLS, wildlife biologists and zoologists earned a mean wage of $62,500 annually as of May 2012. Conservation scientists earned a mean yearly income of $63,590, and foresters made $57,140. For all of these occupations, government agencies were the top employers.
