Inside Social Psychology

Social psychology combines aspects of sociology and psychology to study the relationships between people and groups; in particular, how an individual is influenced by and affects other human beings. Social psychology programs are generally found at the graduate level and prepare students for careers in academia, social research, government agencies and even business.

Education Information

Social psychology degree programs are available as master's and doctoral degree programs; however, a student with a goal of becoming a social psychologist can start preparing as an undergraduate by completing a bachelor's degree program in psychology or taking social science courses and getting research experience. A social psychology curriculum involves coursework such as group psychology, personality, neuropsychology, cultural awareness, research methods and statistics. Students in social psychology programs study the relationship between individuals and society by focusing their research on topics like racism, stereotyping and self esteem.
