Theatrical Production

For a person with a theatrical inclination, there are many career options from which to choose. From behind the scenes, to in front of a live audience, with numerous jobs in between, see what the exciting field of theatrical production has to offer.

Inside Theatrical Production

A theatrical production is a play or musical designed for the theater. As a field of study, it is quite broad, encompassing all aspects involved in the staging of the play or musical. This includes everyone from the producers, directors and actors to the behind-the-scenes professionals, such as set designers, costume designers, stage hands and make-up artists.

Education Information

Typically, a degree is not required for any of these occupations. Nevertheless, those with a degree may have an advantage in this highly competitive industry. Colleges and universities that offer theater programs generally offer Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in areas of study such as stage and production management, theater design and technology, theater education, acting and musical theater. For those interested in directing, a Master of Fine Arts in Directing could be beneficial. Most theater programs require students to work on theatrical productions in-house to gain hands-on experience.
