About Bishop State Community College

Bishop State Community College (BSCC) is located in Mobile, Alabama. The school operates four campuses throughout the city. BSCC belongs to the Alabama College System - a network of community colleges throughout the state.

The school was founded in 1927 as a branch extension campus of Alabama State University to provide education courses to African-American elementary school teachers. In 1989, the college became officially known as Bishop State Community College.

BSCC offers programs in several different academic areas, including social sciences, business and economics, education, health related professions, humanities and natural sciences and mathematics. Technical divisions at the school include commercial and industrial technology, consumer and transportation technology and engineering and construction. These programs will prepare students for career opportunities or transfer to a 4-year university.

Online educational opportunities are also available for students at all four campuses. Students can complete both certificates and associate's degree through distance education. Online courses are available in business, allied health programs, social sciences and computer information systems.

The school has an open admission policy. High school and GED transcripts are required as are transcripts from any previous college coursework. The application can be completed and submitted online or in-person. Students attending college for the first time must take the COMPASS test. Applicants who have prior college credits may have their coursework reviewed in order to opt out of certain parts of the COMPASS test. Students with ACT test scores of 20 or higher in math and/or English may be exempt as well.
