About Hinds Community College

Hinds Community College, located in Raymond, Mississippi, is the biggest community college in Mississippi and the fourth largest higher learning institution in the state. The college was founded in 1917 and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Between its six locations, Hinds serves 32,000 students per year in academic, career-technical, secondary, and adult education programs.


Certificate and associate's degrees are the awards offered at Hinds. There are over 160 programs of study available at the college. The majority of associate's degrees awarded in 2011 were in health, liberal arts, and business. That same year, the three most popular certificate programs were in health, construction, and mechanic-repair technologies. There were 409 full-time faculty members and 357 part-time faculty members in Fall 2011.

Distance learning, ROTC, and weekend-evening courses are learning options at Hinds Community College. Students can also seek employment services, remedial services, placement service for completers, on-campus daycare and academic-career counseling if necessary.


Hinds Community College has an open admissions policy. Applicants who want to complete academic or technical programs can be admitted by way of graduation from high school with a regular or occupational diploma, a GED diploma, or being one unit away from high school graduation with their class. For beginning freshman students who are pursuing an academic or technical degree, an application for admission, high school or GED transcript and ACT scores are required to be submitted to the Admissions Office.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition at Hinds Community College for the 2012-2013 academic year is $100 per credit hour part-time and $980 full-time per semester for in-state students. For out-of-state residents, tuition is $200 per credit hour for part-time and $1,300 (includes $980 tuition fee) per semester for full-time. The estimated expenses for books and supplies during the 2011-2012 school year were $1,040. Estimated costs for room and board among in-state students 2011-2012 were $3,840 on-campus and $4,675 off-campus.
