About Luzerne County Community College
Opened in 1967, Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) is a public, 2-year college located in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. LCCC is the largest community college in northeast Pennsylvania and has 11 satellite campuses located throughout that region. This school is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
LCCC offers academic and career-focused associate's degree, certificate and diploma programs. Students can choose from programs in subjects such as motorsports technology, nursing, music recording technology, integrated entertainment technology, pastry arts management and the liberal arts. Work-training programs for high-demand careers in the energy, manufacturing and health information management fields are also available. In 2011, a little more than half of LCCC's students were enrolled in programs designed to transfer to 4-year colleges; LCCC has articulation agreements with 36 colleges and universities.
LCCC also offers online courses in many subjects as well as online associate's degree programs in accounting, business management, general studies and criminal justice. Online classes are only open to Pennsylvania residents.
LCCC has an open admissions policy. An application for admission and high school transcripts are required for recent high school graduates. Students must also submit proof of residency, and placement testing may be required. Programs in the health sciences have separate admission procedures.
This school enrolled more than 1,800 new students in 2011. About half of LCCC's students attend full time, and most live in Luzerne County. The average age of a student attending LCCC is 27.
Tuition & Financial Aid
Tuition for in-county students attending LCCC full-time (12-18 credits) was $1,440 a semester, as of July 2012. Pennsylvania residents attending classes full-time at LCCC's sites outside of Luzerne County also paid $1,440 a semester. Out-of-county students paid $2,880 a semester and out-of-state students paid $4,320 a semester to attend LCCC full time. All full-time students pay a technology fee of $150 and a general service fee of $210 per semester. Monthly payment plans are available.
The LCCC Foundation offers scholarships based on academic achievement. Some scholarships are for students enrolled in specific programs, such as automotive technology, culinary arts and health sciences. Requirements vary for specific program scholarships.
