About Manatee Technical Institute

Manatee Technical Institute (MTI), part of the Manatee County, Florida school district, offers technical and vocational training programs at the postsecondary level. The school has three campuses; however, most programs are offered at the main campus in the south Bradenton, FL, area. The east campus, near the intersection of I-75 and state highway 70, offers programs in medical and dental technologies, fire science and law enforcement.

The north campus in central Bradenton offers programs for administrative assistants and patient care technicians. The institute also provides a variety of continuing education options to the community. MTI students consistently perform well in the SkillsUSA national competition. In 2011, for the 8th consecutive year, the institute was first in the nation as measured by medals won at the event.


Manatee Technical Institute offers approximately 50 career preparation programs. Students may pursue offerings in architecture and construction; arts, A/V technology and communication; business, management and administration; education and training; law, public safety and security; and transportation, distribution and logistics.

The institute holds classes throughout the year; however, most programs have specific start dates. Programs take between 200 and 1650 class hours to complete. The college views a full-time schedule as being 1080 class hours per year. The student body is 67% full-time, 57% male, 64% Caucasian and 55% are at least 25 years old. Almost all attendees are Florida residents.


Manatee Technical Institute follows an open admissions policy. Prospective attendees must submit a completed admission form, which may be downloaded from the institute's website. After completing the application, students will meet with a counselor to determine the program they wish to pursue and take the state-mandated Test of Adult Basic Education. Some programs require drug testing.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition for the career preparation programs is $2.78 per class hour for Florida residents and $11.17 per class hour for non-residents. Other costs vary by program and may include books, tools and uniforms. Payments are made quarterly, with payment dates in August, October, January and April.

MTI participates in a number of grant and scholarship programs. The institute does not participate in any student loan programs. Applicants should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify for assistance. Applicants must have a high-school diploma or GED and be registered for a program of at least 600 hours to be eligible for federal aid.
