About Marywood University
Marywood University was founded in 1915 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The institution maintains a Catholic focus today, but it accepts students of various religious backgrounds. The campus is located in Scranton, PA, which is about a 2.5-hour drive from New York City and Philadelphia.
Marywood offers roughly 60 undergraduate degree programs and 40 graduate programs through 4 colleges. The university offers an undergraduate honors program and undergraduate research opportunities, as well as housing a career services division that assists students in securing professional internships. Students may also take advantage of opportunities to study abroad and participate in more than 60 student organizations and clubs.
Marywood admitted 70% of its undergraduate applicants in 2011, and 30% of these applicants enrolled. Prospective undergraduates must submit a completed application form, standardized test scores, transcripts and a recommendation letter from a teacher or counselor. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the institution notifies applicants of admissions decisions within 2-3 weeks after the application has been submitted. The institution may accept qualifying scores on some College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and Advanced Placement (AP) tests for credit.
Roughly two-thirds (66%) of Marywood undergraduates are from Pennsylvania. The undergraduate student body consists of 83% White, 4% Hispanic/Latino, 2% Asian and 1% Black/African American students.
Tuition & Financial Aid
In 2012-2013, Marywood tuition was $28,080 per year for students taking 12-18 credits per semester. This base tuition does not include additional fees and costs. Room and meals cost about $7,300 and $5,700, respectively, for students residing on campus. Books and supplies were roughly $1,000. Graduate tuition ranges from $775 per credit for master's students to $870 per credit for doctoral students. Merit scholarship opportunities are available for undergraduates, and assistantship opportunities are available for graduate students.
