About Red Rocks Community College

Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) is a 2-year, public institution located in the suburban city of Lakewood, Colorado, right by the Rocky Mountains. The campus is only a few minutes' drive from Denver and about an hour from some of the state's most popular ski resorts. Founded in 1969 as 1 of 3 campuses of the Community College of Denver, it is now its own institution with an additional campus in Arvada, Colorado. As a community-based college, RRCC receives local financial support through the nonprofit Red Rocks Community College Foundation.

Academics

RRCC offers students more than 650 courses through more than 150 associate's degree and professional certificate programs, including fire science, law enforcement and computer technology. Students also have access to free learning and fitness centers, tutoring and various support services, like student employment guidance and a child care center. The college's CISCO Academy and multimedia and computer technology programs are some of the most esteemed programs in the area.

RRCC also offers its students flexible schedules and course options. Weekend, online, self-paced and traditional classes are offered at both campuses. The average class size is less than 20 students. Students are also able to participate in a variety of student organizations, from poker clubs to engineering clubs. Various indoor activities are free to all enrolled students, including foosball, karaoke and ping-pong as well as access to a game and TV room.

Admissions

Applications for admission are accepted on an open-door basis for entry into the fall, spring or summer semesters. A single online application is used by all students for all programs, with the exception of international students. Prospective students must be 17 years old, though special options are available for younger students still in high school. Upon completing an application, most students will need to take an assessment test, attend orientation and meet with an advisor before registering and paying tuition.

All of RRCC's students are undergraduates. In 2011 there were 9,544 enrolled students. Exactly half of the student population was female, and the largest ethnic group was white (69%). Hispanics/Latinos (12%) make up the next largest ethnic group. Additionally, 66% of all students were enrolled part-time and 51% of students were over the age of 25.

Tuition & Financial Aid

The 2012 in-state resident cost per credit hour was $112.75, and does not include books, supplies and other expenses. Out-of-state tuition was $462.55 per credit hour. RRCC's online and nursing courses and its physician assistant program have different tuition rates. In addition, all students must pay a registration, student health center and general student fee. Specialized instructional courses may include extra fees as well. Tuition and fees may be paid online, in person or by mail. Monthly payment plans are available.

Financial aid in the form of federal loans, work study and grants, including the Pell Grant, are available to qualifying students. In-state residents can also apply for the Colorado Student Grant. A few on-campus scholarships with varying requirements are open to in-state residents as well.
