About Rend Lake College

Located on Rend Lake in Ina, Illinois, Rend Lake College is part of the Illinois Community College System. The Rend Lake College district includes Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Perry, Wayne, White, Washington and Williamson counties. Educating students since 1967, the nationally ranked community college offers small class sizes with personalized instruction from faculty.

Academics

Rend Lake College offers more than 100 certificate and degree programs. The programs consist of adult education courses, career and technical courses, general education courses and liberal arts and science courses. The school's academic divisions include Allied Health, Applied Science and Technology, Community and Corporate Education, Health and P.E., International Studies, Liberal Arts, Math/Science/Education, Adult Education and Family Literacy and Special Programs. Transfer programs are designed to help students smoothly transition to a 4-year institution. Students can choose to transfer credits to more than 48 public and private colleges and universities in the state.

Admissions

Rend Lake College has an open admissions policy. Students can apply online and must submit ACT or SAT scores or take the COMPASS placement test. If applicable, college transcripts must also be submitted. After submitting required materials, students will make an appointment with a counselor or academic advisor to discuss career goals and course scheduling and to learn about student services available on campus. Students can rent or purchase textbooks at the college's Student Center.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Tuition for the 2012-13 academic year is $93 per credit hour for in-district students, $142.50 per credit hour for out-of-district students and $150 per credit hour for out-of-state students. A $3.00 technology fee per credit hour applies to most courses. Rend Lake College estimates the 2012-13 cost of full-time attendance to be $3,972 per year for tuition and books and supplies. RLC offers an online tuition payment program that enables students to schedule payments over 5 months for fall and spring semesters and over 2 months for summer semesters for a fee of $25 per semester.

Financial aid is available in the forms of grants, loans, scholarships, student employment and tuition waivers. The Rend Lake College Foundation awards more than $450,000 to students each year, ranging from about $500 to $1,500 per student. Students can apply for foundation scholarships by completing an online application and providing transcripts and a letter of recommendation.
