About Southeast Missouri State University

Southeast Missouri State University is a 4-year public school located south of St. Louis, MO, and north of Memphis, TN. It is comprised of a main campus and the River Campus, both of which are located in Cape Girardeau. In 2013, U.S. News & World Report named the university #80 in the Midwest. The school also ranked in the top 50 for its online bachelor's programs and graduate business programs.

The university offers more than 200 areas of study in 9 undergraduate and graduate schools and colleges. The most popular associate, bachelor's, and master's degree programs in 2012 were computer technology/computer systems technology, general studies, and secondary school administration, respectively. The university's criminal justice program is one of 37 programs in the nation selected to partner with the U.S. Marshals Service, giving students the chance to intern with the organization. On-campus classes average 25-35 students, though online programs are also available. Other options include the school's extensive study abroad programs, which range from one week to one semester in length.

Admissions deadlines depend on whether students are applying for an early action decision or regular decision and whether they want to live on campus. Potential students must submit an application and fee, their SAT or ACT scores, and a high school transcript. Of the more than 4,000 applicants in fall of 2012, 97% were admitted and 47% enrolled. That year, 78% of undergraduate students attended the school on a full-time basis; 57% of all students were female, and 79% were Caucasian. In-state students made up 79% of the student population, and 82% were 24 years old and under.

The school offers access to federal loans, as well as scholarships, which are based on academic performance and financial need. Applications for scholarships are due December 1.
