About Texas Christian University

Also known as TCU, this private university is located on 275 acres in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. Founded in 1873 and associated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, TCU is ranked #97 among national universities by U.S. News & World Report rankings for 2012. Nicknamed the Horned Frogs, TCU joined the Big 12 varsity sports conference in July of 2012. The school colors are purple and white.

Academics

Texas Christian University has an enrollment of 9,518 students, of which 8,229 are undergraduates. TCU employs 532 faculty members full-time, of whom 87% have earned their terminal degree, and the student/faculty ratio is 13:1.

TCU offers 131 different undergraduate majors divided into eight academic schools. Of these, the most renowned is the Neely School of Business, which is ranked by U.S. News & World Report at #69 among the best business programs for undergraduates in the country. Neely is also ranked highly by the Princeton Review and Bloomberg Businessweek. Areas of study at Neely School of Business include accounting, business, finance, information systems and supply chains, marketing, and management. Undergraduate students may earn the BBA.

Other colleges at TCU include science and engineering, communications, education, and fine arts, as well as the AddRan College of Liberal Arts, and the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The John V. Roach Honors College offers outstanding juniors and seniors of every academic discipline the opportunity to enroll in courses that offer an intensive look at world cultures.

Admissions

TCU offers prospective freshmen the opportunity to apply online, using the school's own application form or a type of available form know as the Common Application. Incoming students must include the following additional elements to complete the application process: an essay, activities resume, evaluation from a high school guidance counselor, SAT or ACT scores, and a $40 admission fee. Students wishing to be considered for scholarships must also submit an evaluation by a teacher. Prospective students must submit their application by November 1 for early action and by December 15 to be eligible for scholarships. The final deadline is February 15.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Annual tuition at TCU costs $34,500, while room and board can cost another $10,650, and books run an additional $1,200 a year. Four different types of financial aid are available: scholarships, loans, grants, and work study. Approximately 79% of incoming freshman receive some kind of financial aid.
