About Trident Technical College

Trident Technical College (TTC) is a 2-year, public community college that spans four campuses in the Charleston, South Carolina, area. TTC students pursue associate's degrees and certificates within 12 academic departments. Students working towards certificates and associate's degrees in arts, criminal justice and business technology are also offered the option to take all of their coursework online through the TTC Online College.

Trident Technical College is home to the renowned Culinary Institute of Charleston; a hospitality, tourism and culinary arts school that attracts accomplished guest faculty from around the country. Other claims to fame at TTC include the TTC Green initiative. Sponsored in part by the U.S. government, the TTC Green initiative offers programming to help prepare students for the green-related careers of the future.

Academics

Trident Technical College offers associate's degrees and certificates within 150 programs of study in the following fields: aeronautical studies; business technology; community, family and child studies; hospitality, tourism and culinary arts; film, media and visual arts; health sciences; humanities and social sciences; industrial and engineering technology; law-related studies; nursing; science and mathematics and the learning center.

Through their apprenticeship office, Trident Technical College partners with local employers to offer apprenticeship programs to workers in need of mid-level technical knowledge. TTC is also partnered with the U.S. Navy to offer sailors stationed anywhere in the world the opportunity to earn an associate's degree online.

To assist students with a full-time job, Trident Technical College offers a cooperative education program that allows students to earn college credit through their current place of employment. Learning assistance centers at the main campus, the Palmer campus, the Berkeley campus and the student success center provide math and writing tutoring.

Admissions

Trident Technical College requires applicants to complete their online or paper application, which can be found on their website. Applicants are also required to submit a high school diploma, GED or a military record verifying high school completion. ACT, SAT or TTC placement test scores must also be submitted.

Applicants applying to Trident Technical College's nursing programs have different application requirements that are dependent on the specific nursing program an applicant wishes to attend. Students applying to TTC's health sciences programs will have to complete a health sciences application in addition to completion of the TTC application. Applicants to the health sciences programs are also required to pass a criminal background check and a drug screening. A felony conviction could render a student ineligible for required licensing exams, and drug testing is performed at random before a student's clinical rotation.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Trident Technical College offers discounted tuition fees to students living in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties, and students from the state of South Carolina also pay a reduced tuition rate when compared to tuition rates for out-of-state students. Tuition costs are tiered by number of credit hours taken. In the 2012-13 school year, residents of Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties pay $149.18 per credit hour (not including student fees). Residents from other counties within the state of South Carolina pay $165.98 per credit hour (excluding student fees), and out-of-state students pay $286.18 per credit hour (excluding student fees).

Students from the state of South Carolina are eligible for lottery tuition assistance at Trident Technical College.
