  • Texas A&M University offers a few doctoral programs in a wide range of fields, such as engineering, accounting and architecture. The main campus of this university is located about 95 miles northwest of downtown Houston, in College Station.

The University of Texas at Austin

The University of Texas at Austin (UT) offers over 90 different doctoral degree programs. Current doctoral students at UTA can work as teaching and research assistants. Students can earn their PhDs through the McCombs School of Business, Cockrell School of Engineering, Jackson School of Geosciences, LPG School of Public Affairs and other colleges on the UT campus.

Doctor of Philosophy in Information, Risk and Operations Management

This doctoral program is for students seeking research, teaching or administrative positions in business. Students can focus their study in operations management, decision science or information systems. Students also have the opportunity to focus their work in a combination of these areas.

Doctor of Philosophy in Materials Science and Engineering

This program allows students to work toward their Master of Science on their way to the PhD. The program combines physical science and engineering disciplines to facilitate research in both areas. Student research can address nanomaterials, materials science and engineering or clean energy.

Doctor of Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering

This program covers celestial, fluid and structural mechanics. Other coursework covers satellite applications, aerodynamics, mathematical analysis and systems theory. After exploring these areas, students conduct their own research and complete a dissertation.

Doctor of Philosophy in Geological Sciences

This program focuses on seismology, hydrogeology, climate and mineral resources. Students must complete research outside their area of expertise to be admitted as doctoral candidates. The program includes conferences, technical sessions, field training and seminars.

Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University also offers nearly 100 different programs for students seeking a doctoral degree. Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture

Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering

This doctoral program in economics prepares students for careers as economists. Students learn about economic policy, industrial organizations, monetary theory and econometrics. Students also learn about macroeconomics and microeconomics.
