These programs can prepare students for entry-level career opportunities in the electronics industry as engineering technicians, computer systems technicians and electronics designers. Graduates may also continue their education with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Most programs emphasize problem-solving skills and include hands-on lab experience using equipment for testing electronic components. Electronics certification exam preparation and cooperative education may also be included.

Lorain County Community College

Located in Elyria, Ohio, Lorain County Community College offers several technical studies degree programs, including those related to the fields of engineering, engineering technology, electronics engineering and manufacturing. Students can pursue a certificate or associate's degree in electronic engineering technology.

The hands-on certificate program provides students with a theoretical and practical background of electronics and electronic engineering, and it includes practical laboratory experience using specialized testing equipment. Required courses cover electrical circuits, fabrication processes for electronics, technical mathematics, problem-solving and digital electronics.

The associate's degree program builds upon the technical skills learned in the certificate program and includes extensive hands-on lab work. Required courses cover microcontrollers, general physics, electrical power and devices and communication electronics. Approved by the Federal Aviation Administration, this program qualifies students for careers as electronic test technicians, engineering assistants, instrumentation technicians, communication specialists and sales engineers.

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College

Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a 2-year, public college providing day, evening, weekend and online classes. The school offers an associate's degree program in electronics engineering technology that teaches students about computer software and hardware, research and development, electronic equipment maintenance and engineer assistance.

Students pursuing this degree gain hands-on experience, complete a first year experience (FYE) course, participate in a co-op education program and complete a team design project. Graduates may choose to earn certification as a computer repair or electronics technician by taking and passing the appropriate certification exam.
