The certificate programs vary in length and courses and are available at undergraduate as well as graduate levels. Austin Community College District

Austin Community College District is situated in Austin. This school allows students to earn a certificate in meeting and event planning. The program can be completed full-time in 2 semesters. Required courses for the program include hospitality marketing and sales, catering, legal issues, and computers in hospitality. A 'C' grade or better is required in every course.

Collin County Community College District

Collin County Community College District is located in McKinney and awards a certificate in meetings and event management to its graduates. The program consists of 24 credit hours and can be finished in 2 semesters. Courses include special events design, hospitality marketing, and food/beverage operations. An elective course is also available. Students have the option for an associates in applied sciences degree in hospitality and food service management, which allows students to take the same core courses as the certificate program for a concentration on the meeting and event management courses.

Lone Star College - North Harris

Lone Star College - North Harris campus is located in Houston. The college offers a wedding planner certificate program. Students can learn about relevant event planning skills like securing vendors, budgeting events, and decorating venues. The program provides 40 contact hours and is sponsored by the Wedding Planning Institute.

Richland College

Richland College is located in Dallas and offers a certificate program in meetings. Courses cover topics such as customer sales and service, convention management, and special events design. Students must accumulate 34-36 credit hours to graduate.

Texas A&M University - College Station

Texas A&M University - College Station, located in College Station, provides a certificate program in professional event management. This program is only open to students who are currently enrolled in a degree program at the university. Individuals are required to complete service hours in a volunteer setting. Elective courses allow students to pursue areas of their own interest. Students may learn about managing festivals, fairs, and tourism programs.

University of North Texas

University of North Texas, situated in Denton, provides students with a graduate certificate program in event management through its School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management. The certificate program is also offered online. Students may count applicable program credits towards a Master of Science program. Required courses include service excellence, promotional strategies, and event management.

Be sure to look into the undergraduate tuition and fees for each school, as out-of-state costs may be up to twice the in-state costs. Event planning courses in most schools take up to two semesters, but school programs are different in each school, ranging from marketing and catering, wedding planning, and managing festivals and so much more.
