Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science, Fashion Merchandising Major
The fashion merchandising degree is a 120- to 121-credit hour program that requires courses in textiles, promotional strategies, buying, fashion history and merchandising administration. Students must take a course in public relations, finance or consumer law.
University of the Incarnate Word

Admission to the fashion management program requires that students pass a skills test and portfolio assessment; admission to senior-level courses requires additional assessments. The fashion merchandising degree calls for 120 credit hours; 46 of these are core courses in business and fashion, such as marketing and textiles, and 52 hours are specific to the fashion merchandising concentration, including courses on retailing and buying. An internship is required, as is participation in producing a student-run fashion show and creation of a professional portfolio. Suggested elective courses include fashion and film and color theory. Students have opportunities to study abroad, and they can network with industry professionals and develop their skills through membership in the school's Fashion Society.
