Framingham State University's Adult Education Programs
The Division of Graduate and Continuing Education at Framingham State University offers English as a second language (ESL) classes and lifelong learning seminar series in addition to degree and certificate programs aimed at professionals and other adult learners. Programs are offered on a part-time basis to meet the needs of working adults. Several programs are offered online.
Computer Programming Languages Certificate
Information Technology Fluency Certificate
This 2-semester program covers the Windows operating system, the Internet, security issues, networks and simple troubleshooting. Students are prepared for entry-level positions within the IT industry.
Network Administration Management Certificate
Students are prepared for positions as systems or network administrators. Coursework includes UNIX operating systems, client management, Windows servers, system administration, database management, and network technology.
Educator Licensure Preparation Program
A series of workshops is offered for aspiring teachers planning to take the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure. Workshops cover test strategies and an overview of the exam, grammar usage, written summary, and written composition exercises and a practice test with feedback.
English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
ESL classes are offered to students who need to improve their English-language skills for academic, professional or personal reasons. The intensive program provides instruction in reading, grammar, vocabulary, writing, and pronunciation. A community program is designed for students with limited time.
Joseph P. Keefe Technical School's Adult Education Programs
Joseph P. Keefe Technical School serves residents of Framingham and the surrounding communities. In addition to technical training at the high school level, the school offers a number of continuing education opportunities for adult students.
EKG Technician Certification Program
This program prepares students for the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians' Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam. Courses cover heart anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and ethics. Students receive training on the use of the EKG machine.
Medical Billing a Coding Program
Claims filing, insurance forms, appeals, billing procedures, and coding are covered in this program. After completing practical work experience, students are eligible to write the professional certification exams offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders and the American Health Information Association.
Pharmacy Technician Program
Students learn to read and interpret prescriptions, identify drugs' generic and brand names, calculate dosages, and dispense prescriptions. Upon completion of the program, students take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam.
Phlebotomy Technician Program
In this program, students learn to collect blood specimens from clients for laboratory analysis. The curriculum combines classroom and lab work while covering blood collection procedures, puncturing methods, and specimen handling.
Culinary Arts Program
This program prepares cooks to work in restaurants, bakeries, catering industries, and other food-related businesses. Students may learn cake decorating and baking techniques. They will also explore various regional cuisines, such as South Indian, Thai, or Caribbean cuisines.
Massachusetts Bay Community College
MassBay is a school in Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, nine miles from Framingham. Several continuing education programs are available for both professional and personal education needs. Online, weekend, and evening classes offer a flexible schedule for learning.
Community ESL Course
These classes are focused on helping students improve their knowledge and control of the English language. Beginner, intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced courses are available to fit whatever skill level a person has when starting the program. Additionally, there is also a course for helping to prepare for the TOEFL.
CPR Training Course
Courses are available to teach students how to perform CPR and basic life saving techniques, as well as to recertify individuals who have already earned the American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
CNA Training Course
Programs are available to train nursing assistants for certification. Lasting 120 hours with 40 of those being clinical training, students learn the fundamentals of being a nursing assistant working under RNs and LPNs. Class sizes are typically small. After completion of the program, the certification exam will be held on campus.
