Georgia Institute of Technology - Main Campus
Georgia Institute of Technology is located in the city of Atlanta and has a student population of over 23,000, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a 132-credit Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program that's accredited through ABET and prepares students for engineer-in-training exams. Students study signal processing, microelectronic circuits, signals and systems, and electromagnetics. Graduate students can apply for the Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering program. Students can choose between thesis and non-thesis options and will complete a total of 30 credit hours. The school also offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Located in Macon, this school awards undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field of electrical engineering. The ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering in Electrical Engineering is a four-year program that prepares students for licensure exams. Students begin with introductory engineering and programming courses. In the second year, students move on to classes in electrical fundamentals and thermodynamics. Graduates of the bachelor's program who intend to pursue a graduate degree can enroll in Mercer's Master of Science in Engineering in Electrical Engineering program. Within the master's degree program, students can choose concentrations in communications, computer engineering, digital signal processing and electromagnetics.
Kennesaw State University
Kennesaw State University's Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering campus is located in the city of Marietta. Electronic engineering students can explore the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering program. Students delve into circuit analysis, digital logic, semiconductor devices, engineering electronics and communications systems. In addition to coursework, students complete a senior project. This program is not accredited by ABET; however, the curriculum is accepted by the Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Graduate students can enroll in the school's 34-credit Master of Science in Applied Engineering - Electrical program. Students can choose a research-based or project-based program.
In Georgia, certification is needed to work as a professional engineer. To qualify for an engineer-in-training certificate, students must complete an accredited program or have eight years of experience and pass a written exam in engineering fundamentals. To earn a professional engineer certificate, students must accrue four years of work experience and pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam.
