In Hawaii, the University of Hawaii at Manoa is the only university to offer architecture programs leading to a bachelor's degree, doctoral degree and global dual degree. While bachelor's degrees may be earned in four years, the doctorate program can take seven years to complete. Laboratory and research time are highlighted in the doctoral degree program, as is the need for practicum experience. Students may choose to study abroad. Only the doctoral degree can prepare students for licensure in architecture.

In order to become an architect in Hawaii, a state license is needed. As a requirement for this license, students have to graduate from a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)-accredited bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree, complete the Intern Development Program (IDP) and pass the Architect Registration Exam. Architects are also required to meet 16 continuing education hours every two years.
