Health unit coordinator classes are generally part of short-term non-credit certificate programs. Students learn to perform various clerical duties at hospitals and medical centers, including maintaining and organizing patient records, transcribing physician orders and answering phone calls. These programs usually include a clinical internship at a health care facility along with coursework. After completing the program, students are eligible to pursue health unit coordinator positions with local and regional hospitals and medical clinics.
