Georgia Southern University Armstrong Campus

Location in Savannah, Georgia Southern University's Armstrong Campus offers a variety of healthcare-related degree programs, including those in public health and health sciences.

Bachelor of Health Science

This bachelor's degree program offers students the opportunity to choose from four focus areas: health science (generalist), health informatics, health administration or fitness management. Course topics include health communication, medical terminology, health law, resources in healthcare, occupational safety, and healthcare marketing and economics.

Bachelor of Science in Public Health

Students who choose the health education and promotion major learn how to work with diverse populations in various health care settings. The 124-semester-credit program emphasizes teaching students how to plan, assess and execute disease prevention and promotion programs. Coursework can include topics such as the health of pregnant women, substance abuse or physiology. Students may choose to add a global health emphasis to the health education and promotion major without increasing the number of credits required.

Georgia Southern University Statesboro Campus

Located at Georgia Southern University's Statesboro campus, the College of Health and Human Sciences offers several healthcare-related programs through the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health. Students may take the Bachelor of Science in Public Health here, but not the Bachelor of Health Science. The Statesboro campus additionally offers three health minors and graduate programs in public health.

Minor Programs

Students can choose from three 15-credit minor programs: global health, health education and promotion, and public health. The global health program requires the completion of five courses in areas like global health policy and environmental health. A minor in health education and promotion requires coursework in areas like biostatistics, chronic diseases, education in sexuality, and aging. Students in the public health minor will take courses in areas such as public health in the community and strategies for altering health behaviors.

Master of Public Health

The Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health offers a master's program in public health. MPH students must complete 45 hours of study, which includes core coursework and a practicum, to earn this graduate degree. All students take the same core classes, but eventually choose a concentration in environmental health sciences, biostatistics, community health, epidemiology, or health policy and management; they may also choose a generalist concentration.

Doctor of Public Health

Also offered through the College of Public Health, the Doctor of Public Health (Dr.P.H.) is an advanced degree program for individuals who already possess a master's degree. The program consists of 60 credit hours and requires completion of a practicum and dissertation. Students in the Dr.P.H. program can specialize in one of four areas: public health leadership, epidemiology, biostatistics, or community health behavior and education.
