Courses in homeopathy are usually available through bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in holistic nursing, alternative medicine and homeopathic therapy. Through these courses, students become familiar with analyzing patients and prescribing homeopathic treatments.
Some classes offered for potential homeopaths include training in the use of natural remedies, as well as diagnosis, treatment and patient care. Most programs will also require a clinical course, where students can gain practical experience working with actual patients.
Here are some of the major concepts you'll learn while taking homeopathy courses:
- Human anatomy and physiology
- Patient case management

Overview of Homeopathic Medicine
Homeopathic medicine involves the use of small quantities of natural substances, including plant, animals and minerals, to prevent and treat illness. In an introductory course, students learn how homeopaths prepare homeopathic treatments for patients. Since homeopaths create unique medicines for each patient, students also learn the methods used to assess patients. Students also examine commonly-used remedies and learn how to create basic remedies.
Pharmacology is the study of drugs. Though homeopathy tends towards using more natural methods that derive from nature, including other plants and animals, students of homeopathic medicine are often required to take a course in pharmacology. Students learn how drugs work, their side effects and the conditions they treat.
Students may take several homeopathic case management courses. They learn how to take detailed patient histories in order to determine what needs to be treated and the best course of action. Students analyze multiple cases, and discuss possible homeopathic remedies with classmates and professors. In more advanced classes, students examine more complex diseases.
In this course, students gain practical experience diagnosing and prescribing treatments. They treat a range of ailments, including nausea, snake bites, insect bites, indigestion, food poisoning, concussions and sprains. The lecture portion of the course examines the ways to apply homeopathic therapies. Students also learn to identify and treat symptoms before they become serious.
Like with any medical program, students taking homeopathy courses need to complete a clinical experience. Through clinical coursework, students interact with and treat patients under the supervision of licensed professionals. When working with patients, they complete case histories, analyze problems and prescribe treatments.
