DePaul University

DePaul University is the largest Catholic university in the United States. DePaul's School of Hospitality Leadership in the Driehaus College of Business offers an undergraduate degree program in hospitality and the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business offers graduate degree programs in hospitality management.

Bachelor of Science in Business in Hospitality Leadership

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Business with a major in hospitality leadership program can concentrate their studies in event management, lodging management, restaurant operations and ownership, or private club management. Core courses cover topics in hospitality business operations, behavior and etiquette in the hospitality business, and hospitality law. Additionally, students may participate in an internship. Students also complete a business capstone course.

Master of Science in Hospitality and Operational Performance

The Master of Science degree program in hospitality and operational performance is designed to provide students with hospitality leadership skills. The curriculum is composed of a series of 12 advanced courses, including managing employee and guest experiences, using technology in hospitality operations and managing revenue.

Master of Business Administration in Hospitality Leadership

In this concentration, students will take courses in guest management, service technology and current trends in hospitality. In the MBA core curriculum, classes are taken in financial management, business analytics, decision making and marketing management.

Moraine Valley Community College

Moraine Valley Community College is located close to 17 miles from downtown Chicago. This school offers certificate and associate's degree programs in many technical and professional training areas. Business programs at Moraine include certificate and degree programs related to hospitality management. Associate's degree programs require general education courses in addition to certificate requirements.

Beverage Management Certificate

Moraine Valley Community College's beverage management certificate program is designed for novice students or current hospitality managers interested in expanding their abilities. This is a 19-credit program that requires students to complete courses like hospitality cost control, food service sanitation and menu writing.

Certificate/A.A.S. in Culinary Arts Management

Moraine offers a 39-credit certificate program and a 64-credit associate's degree program in culinary arts management. Required courses are focused on the skills needed by a restaurant manager. Some of the courses students take include quantity food production, hospitality cost control and nutrition for food service managers.

Certificate/A.A.S in Restaurant/Hotel Management

Moraine Valley offers a 36-credit certificate and a 62-credit associate's degree program designed for prospective restaurant and hotel managers. This program includes courses that provide an overview of the type of management skills needed in the hospitality industry. For example, students take courses in food production, introduction to the hospitality industry, beverage management and banquet services.

Other School Options

Roosevelt University located in downtown Chicago is another private not-for-profit university that offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in hospitality management. City Colleges of Chicago Kennedy-King College, about eight miles from downtown Chicago, offers an associate's degree in hospitality management. About 23 miles south of downtown Chicago in Hammond, Indiana, Purdue University - Northwest offers hospitality programs.
