Students of these programs can choose from several concentrations and participate in internships that provide practical experience. Graduate programs may include graduate assistantships.


Christian Brothers University

Christian Brothers University in Memphis offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program with a concentration in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The curriculum for this concentration includes event management, a tourism introduction, a hospitality management project, and a hospitality management foundation course. Students also spend three months abroad, studying at a university known for its hospitality training in Bad Gleichenberg, Austria.

Pellissippi State Community College

Located in Knoxville, the college provides an Associate of Applied Science in Business with areas of concentration in hospitality and culinary arts. Both programs require 60 credits of study, including an internship. Furthermore, students earning an associate's degree with culinary arts concentration are eligible to apply to the American Culinary Federation and become certified chefs. The culinary arts area of concentration is offered through the AHEAD program, which is an accelerated 16-month program for working professionals. Pellissippi State Community College also offers 12-credit-hour, entry-level industry knowledge certificate programs in hospitality and culinary arts. !! Southwest Tennessee Community College

Southwest Tennessee Community College

Memphis- based Southwest Tennessee Community College offers an associate's degree program in hospitality management. Concentrations in the 60-credit-hour associate's degree program include culinary arts, food and beverage management, and hotel management. A required internship is not part of the standard associate's degree program curriculum, but students wishing to pursue an internship opportunity may do so through the Office of Cooperative Education. Additionally, the college provides a 25-credit-hour technical certificate program in food preparation.

Tennessee State University

Nashville's Tennessee State University offers a Bachelor of Business Administration with a hospitality management concentration. Core business courses cover topics like statistical analysis, economics, operations management, marketing, and business finance. Core subjects in the hospitality management concentration include restaurant and food service management, events management, human resources management, and lodging management. Internships are also required.

The University of Tennessee

Knoxville is home to The University of Tennessee. The university offers a Bachelor of Science in Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management that gives students the choice of a major in hotel, restaurant, and tourism management or a major in retail and consumer sciences. These programs combine classroom instruction and 300 hours of field-based experience with a liberal arts curriculum. Available minors include restaurant and food service management as well as tourism and hospitality management. The University of Tennessee also offers a doctoral program in retail, hospitality, and tourism management that offers graduate assistantships.

University of Memphis

The University of Memphis provides a bachelor's degree program in hospitality and resort management. In addition to fulfilling major requirements, students must complete required general education coursework. Within the hospitality and resort management degree program, students complete an internship with local businesses. The bachelor's degree program focuses on learning to effectively run a hospitality business.
