In Florida, hotel and restaurant management studies are commonly offered at the associate and bachelor's degree levels, though master's and doctoral programs are also available. Majors are offered in culinary management, restaurant and food service management, hospitality and tourism management, hotel and lodging management and hospitality administration. Additionally, undergraduate certificate programs can be found in such areas as guest services, food and beverage management and event planning. Internships are often part of the curricula and allow students to gain hands-on skills in the field. Bethune-Cookman University

Bethune-Cookman University is located in Daytona Beach and offers a bachelor's degree in hospitality management. The program is 125 credits in length and includes courses in facilities engineering, catering management, resort development, hospitality law and restaurant management. Students are required to complete lab work and two internships.

Broward College

Students enrolled at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale can pursue several certificates and associate degrees related to hotel and restaurant management. The 30-credit rooms division management certificate program includes courses in hotel management, front office systems, business, management and accounting. Students enrolled in the food and beverage management certificate program must complete 30 credits in coursework involving supervisory development, personnel management, hotel management and hospitality law. A 15-credit guest services specialist certificate is also available.

Associate degrees are available in culinary arts management and hospitality and tourism management. These programs require 64 credits and include general education requirements and core courses in the field. Culinary arts courses include baking and pastries, food production and food and beverage management. Students in the hospitality and tourism management program take courses in hospitality law, supervision, marketing and management. Broward College also offers an associate degree in hospitality administration that's designed for transfer to a 4-year university.

Florida International University

Students at Miami's Florida International University can earn a bachelor's degree in hospitality management with a restaurant/foodservice management or hotel/lodging management minor. The restaurant/foodservice management curriculum covers menu planning and foodservice systems, along with human resources and accounting in the hospitality sector. Students are also required to complete an internship and a senior seminar.

The hotel/lodging management track includes coursework in property management and show marketing, in addition to a senior seminar and an advanced internship. Related degree concentrations are available in culinary management and beverage management.

Florida State College at Jacksonville

Florida State College at Jacksonville offers certificate and associate degree programs that feature hotel and restaurant management courses. The 15-credit guest services specialist certificate program includes coursework in food production, hospitality management and dining room management. A food and beverage management certificate is also available. This 30-credit program includes a hospitality management internship.

Students pursuing the hospitality and tourism management or culinary management degrees are required to complete 64 credits of coursework that cover sanitation and safety, supervision and personnel management, marketing, dining room management and food production. These associate degree programs also require students to complete two internships.

Hillsborough Community College

Hillsborough Community College is located in Tampa and provides two associate degrees related to hotel and restaurant management. Students can choose to earn a degree in hospitality and tourism management or restaurant management. Courses in the hospitality and tourism management program cover topics in lodging management, food preparation, front desk procedures, supervisory development and hospitality law.

The restaurant management associate degree program provides instruction in menu planning, basic food preparation, food purchasing and entrepreneurship. Hillsborough Community College also offers certificates in food and beverage management, culinary arts, chef's apprentice and event planning.

Johnson and Wales University

Johnson and Wales University is based in North Miami and offers several programs related to hotel and restaurant management. Students can pursue bachelor's degrees in culinary arts and food service management; hotel and lodging management; baking and pastry arts and food service management; restaurant, food and beverage management; and travel-tourism and hospitality management. Students enrolled in these programs have a chance to intern with well-known hotels and corporations. They also have the opportunity to study abroad.

Miami Dade College

Miami-based Miami Dade College has numerous hospitality and culinary management programs. Students can pursue an associate degree in culinary arts management, hospitality and tourism management or hospitality administration/travel and tourism. In addition, the school offers certificates in culinary arts management operations, food and beverage management and rooms division management.

The culinary arts management degree curriculum covers facilities planning, cost control, food production and purchasing. The hospitality and tourism management degree curriculum provides instruction in event and meeting management, front office procedures, housekeeping and lodging operations, and students have the option to major in food service management or lodging management.

Palm Beach State College

Palm Beach State College is located in Lake Worth and offers hotel and restaurant management training through certificate programs and an associate degree program. The food service management certificate program is 30 credits in length and includes courses in dining room management, professional cooking, cost control and food production. The 30-credit hospitality certificate program provides courses in hospitality management security, personnel management and hospitality purchasing practices.

Students enrolled in the hospitality and tourism management associate degree program are required to complete 64 credits of coursework in hospitality property management, security, hospitality law, accounting and front office procedures.

Pensacola State College

Pensacola-based Pensacola State College provides students with an opportunity to pursue several programs in hospitality and culinary arts management. Students can earn certificates in rooms division management, guests services specialist, food and beverages management, event planning management and culinary arts.

Pensacola State College also offers three 64-credit associate degree programs in culinary management and hospitality and tourism management. The Associate in Applied Science in Culinary Management program covers topics like bar and beverage management, culinary production, nutrition and dining room management. The Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management programs provide instruction in hospitality property management, lodging operations, hospitality accounting and dining management.

St. Petersburg College

St. Petersburg College in Clearwater provides several hospitality certificates and a hospitality and tourism management associate degree. Students can pursue certificates in food and beverage specialist, food and beverage management, rooms division specialist, rooms division operations and rooms division management. Courses completed in the certificate programs can be applied toward the 64-credit hospitality and tourism management associate degree. The degree curriculum covers topics such as front office procedures, marketing, cost control, hospitality law and food service operations. Students are also required to participate in an internship.

University of Central Florida

Located in Orlando, University of Central Florida offers a bachelor's degree in restaurant and foodservice management. In addition to general education courses, students take core classes in guest services management, foodservice marketing and food preparation techniques. Internships are required as well. Related bachelor's programs are available in hospitality management and event management. University of Central Florida also offers master's and doctoral programs in hospitality management.

Valencia College

Orlando's Valencia College offers associate degrees in baking and pastry management, culinary management, hospitality and tourism management and restaurant and food service management. These are 64-credit programs that require students to complete courses and an internship.

The school offers two types of hospitality and tourism management associate degree programs. The Associate in Applied Science program prepares students for immediate employment, while the Associate in Science program is designed for students who want to transfer to a bachelor's degree program.

Students at Valencia College can also earn hospitality certificates in event planning management, food and beverage management, guest services specialist and rooms division management. The following culinary certificates are available as well: chef's apprentice, culinary arts and culinary arts management.
