Aspiring human resource management professionals seeking short-term training in this field can find certificate programs at six schools in Illinois. The majority of these programs are at the undergraduate level, but Northwestern offers a post-baccalaureate certificate program in human resource management. Distance learning programs in human resource management from Illinois-based schools can also result in a certificate. A summary of program findings is described below, along with a table of information, including tuition and school type.
Opened in 1967, Harper College provides certificate and associate's degree programs to individuals of Chicago's northwest suburbs at its Palatine campus. The college's human resource management certificate program consists of 18 credit hours and may be completed in eight months. Coursework includes business organization, training, human resources management, employment law, labor-management relations and organizational behavior.
Joliet Junior College
Joliet Junior College in Joliet offers two different certificate programs in this field. The 18-credit Certificate of Completion program focuses on the skills needed for human resource management. Core courses cover management principles and provide lessons in human relations; the program also has a course devoted to employee evaluation, placement, training and incentive programs. A 30-credit Certificate of Achievement program is also available that expands upon the curriculum of the completion certificate and adds additional elective and general education courses, such as technical writing, economic principles, business communications, accounting and general business.
Lewis and Clark Community College

Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies has a post-baccalaureate certificate in human resources fundamentals at its Evanston campus. The program, designed either for professionals already in the field or individuals looking to break into it, requires students to take four classes out of a group of six HR core courses, including training and development, human resource management, employment law and performance excellence. Students applying to the program must have already completed a bachelor's degree program.
Oakton Community College
Oakton Community College's main campus is located in Des Plaines. Oakton offers a 21-credit-hour human resource specialist certificate.
