Louisiana State University and Agricultural & Mechanical College
This Baton Rouge school, commonly referred to as LSU, offers a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in human resource management. Students in this program take nine credit hours of required human resource classes and six credit hours of human resource electives. Concentration course options include employee selection and placement, compensation administration, legal issues in human resource management and labor relations. Students must also take accounting, economics, business law, finance and marketing classes to complete the major.
Louisiana State University - Eunice
This two-year school, located in Eunice, offers a 33-credit hour program leading to a Human Resources Management Certificate of Technical Studies. Coursework covers business law, risk management, insurance, safety management, supervision, security management, quality management and consumer services.
Louisiana State University - Shreveport
At this Shreveport school, students can earn a Bachelor of Science in Management and Administration with a concentration in human resource management. The concentration requires 12 credit hours of human resource management coursework. Electives include compensation administration, staffing, training and development, labor law and performance improvement. Students at this school can earn credit for completing an internship. There is also a student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management that students can join to gain experience and network in the industry.
Louisiana Tech University
At this Ruston-based school, students can earn a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in human resources management through the College of Business. This program contains business, management and elective courses. Students study operations and personnel management, personnel law, compensation systems and management of organizations. A seminar in personnel and industrial relations must be taken following the completion of all other management coursework. Students at this school can gain elective credit for completing an internship.
McNeese State University
This school, located in Lake Charles, offers a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in human resource management. Students take core courses in finance, marketing, economics and management. The human resource management concentration covers innovative management perspectives and managing the diverse workplace. Additional concentration electives can be selected from a pool of offerings that includes legal issues in human resource management, staffing, compensation administration, labor relations and a management internship.
Nicholls State University
Students at this Thibodaux school can earn a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in human resources management. Core courses cover business, management and marketing. Human resources students learn about staffing, training and development, performance, compensation management and multinational management. Students must also complete a seminar in human resources.
Tulane University of Louisiana
This New Orleans university offers human resources programs though the School of Continuing Studies, an outreach division that provides professional undergraduate and graduate programs to students in many populations. Students can earn an Associate of Arts, a 24-credit hour Post-Baccalaureate Certificate or a 12-credit hour Certificate of Completion in Human Resource Development. A minor in this field is also available. Core coursework for these programs covers recruiting and selection of employees, compensation and benefits, and human resources planning. Additional elective and required courses vary by program.
