Canton Area Schools with Human Resource Management Degrees
There are many options in the Canton area for both bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as graduate certificates, in human resources management (HRM). Eastern Michigan University
Eastern Michigan University offers baccalaureate and graduate programs in HRM. The university's College of Business emphasizes working in a global environment and provides opportunities for students to interact with the local business community.
Bachelor of Business Administration in Management, Human Resource Management Concentration
The BBA degree calls for at least 124 credit hours. Students must apply to the College of Business after completing 56 credit hours of coursework. The major requires 60 credit hours, including business core courses such as business law, managerial accounting, marketing and statistics. Four courses in management are mandatory. Students in the HRM concentration choose 12 hours of courses from options including union/management relations, current issues in HRM and compensation.
Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management
Individuals who earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college with a GPA of at least 2.7 can pursue a Graduate Certificate in HRM. The 15-credit-hour program requires courses in organizational behavior and HRM strategy. Students choose one other course from options such as benefits management, employment law, staffing and HR technology.
Master of Science in Human Resource Management and Organizational Development
This degree program prepares graduates to implement and manage change and develop HR programs that match a company's needs. Admission requirements include a bachelor's degree with an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 and an acceptable score on either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE). The program requires 30 credit hours, with 18 of those in required courses such as HRM strategies and HR development. A thesis or a practicum is also mandatory. Students must choose 12 hours of electives with options including staffing, compensation and benefits.
Master of Business Administration, Human Resource Management Specialization
Eastern Michigan's MBA program requires 54 credit hours. Students must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited school with at least a 2.75 GPA. Their GMAT or GRE scores must demonstrate an aptitude for higher-level business study. Foundation courses in areas including accounting, finance and marketing make up 18 hours of the program, while core skills courses in areas including strategic communication, strategic management and globalization comprise another 18 hours for courses. One course in either innovation or analytic skills is required. In the HRM specialization, students take a course in strategic HRM and choose three more HR courses from options including employment law, staffing, benefits and union management.
University of Michigan
The University of Michigan offers a bachelor's degree in HRM that prepares graduates to work in all areas of personnel management. Students can complete research projects with instructor approval.
Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management
Students in this program take business core courses that include human resource policy, staffing, training and development and employment relations. Human resource management majors can choose from courses in negotiation and conflict management, organizational behavior on an international level and a business internship.
Other School Options
Marygrove College, a private, four-year school approximately 25 miles from Canton in Detroit, offers a Master of Arts in HRM and an HRM graduate certificate. At Oakland University, about 40 miles from Canton in Rochester Hills, students can earn an MBA with a concentration in HRM as well as a graduate certificate.
