Houston Baptist University is a private, Christian school that offers HR programs through its Archie W. Dunham College of Business. The school gives working professionals an opportunity to earn a master's degree through evening classes. The faculty includes academics and business executives.
Master of Science (M.S.) in Human Resources Management
This program is open to students with a bachelor's degree in any subject. Students learn how HR management can help an organization reach its goals. The 33 credit hours include courses in information technology, global human resources management, employment law, marketing and staffing. Students in the cohort take the same courses at the same time, and there are no electives.
University of Houston
Courses in the University of Houston's management degree program focus on the impact of individual and group behavior on an organization. Students in the HR track take those courses within the management degree program.
Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Management, Human Resource Management Track
Taught through the C.T. Bauer School of Business, the management degree program at the University of Houston is a 120-credit hour program. All business majors take courses in statistics, global business, business law, marketing and finance. In the HR track, an introductory course is required, as is a course in social responsibility and ethics. Students can choose from electives including equal employment opportunity, performance management systems and management training.
Human Resource Management Minor
Both business and non-business majors can minor in HR management, which requires 15 semester hours of HR courses. Introductory courses in organizational behavior and HR management are required. Students can choose from courses including ethics, management training, legal issues in management and performance management systems.
University of Houston - Clear Lake
The University of Houston - Clear Lake offers online HR degree programs, making them accessible to working professionals. Students have opportunities to network with some of Houston's top business people and learn from faculty members who are involved professionals in the community.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Management, Human Resource Management Concentration
Management majors at the University of Houston - Clear Lake can specialize in HR management by completing 15 hours of HR courses while earning their 120-credit hour degree. HR students are required to take courses in HR management, HR management information systems and methods of compensation. They can choose from HR electives in collective bargaining, labor relations, dispute resolution, staffing or organizational development.
Master of Arts (M.A.) in Human Resource Management
This degree is offered completely online and requires at least 36 credit hours. Students take foundation courses in business basics such as accounting along with ten required HR courses including organizational change, compensation and benefits and teamwork. A seminar is required as a capstone course. Elective course options include international management, labor relations or an internship.
Master of Business Administration (MBA) with Human Resources Management Concentration
The University of Houston - Clear Lake offers its MBA degree both on campus and online. Both options require 36 credit hours of coursework and have the same curriculum. Required courses include economic principles, marketing, accounting for managers, management science and financial policy. In the HR management concentration, students take courses in HR management processes, legal issues and staffing.
Other School Options
Houston Community College, about 1.6 miles from downtown, offers an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management as well as a certificate program in business management, both with a specialization in human resource management. These programs also have online options.
