Regent University

The master's degree program in human services counseling is available through the university's School of Psychology and Counseling. This school also offers undergraduate psychology degrees as well as graduate programs in professional counseling, counselor education and clinical psychology.

Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling

The human services counseling program is for professionals whose jobs may include informal counseling duties, such as medical professionals and teachers. Program coursework can be completed online in as little as one year and covers counseling skills for couples, families, children and adolescents. Students also learn how to work with groups and communities. In addition to completing coursework, students will complete 150 hours of on-site field experience.

Old Dominion University

Old Dominion University's Department of Counseling and Human Services offers undergraduate programs that are available online and on campus. Students interested in a graduate program can also find degrees in clinical mental health and school counseling.

Human Services Minor

The minor in human services requires 15 credit hours of core and elective courses. These cover such topics as intervention strategies for children, interpersonal skills and diversity issues in human services.

Bachelor of Science in Human Services

Old Dominion University's human services bachelor's degree program requires students to complete coursework in human services methods, diversity, career development, program development and fundraising. They must also complete field observations and an internship. Program graduates can apply for voluntary credentials from the National Organization for Human Services. They can also pursue entry-level positions with criminal justice, community, social service and hospice organizations.

Other School Options

Tidewater Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science in Human Services. The school is located about 18 miles from downtown Virginia Beach.
