Wichita Area Technical College

The Manufacturing Department at Wichita Area Technical College offers programs at the degree and certificate level. There are seven programs offered in the department, in addition to several specialization opportunities. Students in the program can pursue a certificate and an associate's degree in climate control technology that should prepare them for a career in the HVAC/R field.

Technical Certificate in Climate and Energy Control Technologies

The Technical Certificate in Climate and Energy Control Technologies is 44 credits and requires students to complete several HVAC/R courses, including air conditioning systems, HVAC fundamentals, heating systems fundamentals, HVAC design, building control systems and heat pumps. OSHA and EPA courses are required as well.

Associate of Applied Science in Climate and Energy Control Technologies

The Associate of Applied Science in Climate and Energy Control Technologies combines academic coursework with professional training. The 62-credit degree program requires that students complete the same technical courses as those in the TC program. However, students must complete additional general education requirements and courses in sheet metal and welding. Students also must participate in an HVAC/R internship.

Hutchinson Community College

The Computer and Industrial Technology Department at Hutchinson Community College offers several career training opportunities through certificate and degree programs. Career training programs include welding development, construction technology, electronic engineering technology and machine technology. An HVAC/R certificate is available through the department, in addition to renewable energy technology and industrial mechanical maintenance certificates.

The HVAC/R certificate program at Hutchinson Community College is 43 credits and covers topics involving the installation and maintenance of HVAC systems.
