Educational awards range from certificates to doctoral degrees in a range of accounting and taxation majors; minors are also offered by some schools. Some schools may offer alternative schedules, such as classes on the weekends, and others provide students with the opportunity to gain experience as an intern or to study abroad.

Career Requirements

Requirements beyond acquiring a bachelor's degree may exist for students wanting to enter certain taxation-related career fields (to become a certified public accountant, for example, students need to complete additional academic hours and pass a certification exam).

Florida Atlantic University

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) is based in Boca Raton. Income tax classes are offered in the school's undergraduate accounting curriculum, as well as in its Master of Taxation program. Students in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting program take a mandatory class in federal tax, and elective taxation courses are available that cover such subjects as tax research, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) considerations, shareholder income tax, and tax practice. Florida State College at Jacksonville

Taxation courses at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) are offered at four of the school's Jacksonville-based locations. FSCJ's Downtown, Kent, North, and South Campuses all host technical certificate programs in accounting technology operations and accounting technology management, as well as an Associate in Science (AS) program in accounting technology. Both certificate programs include an income tax course that covers personal tax considerations, including Federal Revenue Code rules and income tax return preparation. Florida State University

Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee offers undergraduate and graduate programs with classes in income tax. The BS in Accounting curriculum includes two mandatory courses in tax accounting that cover topics like Internal Revenue Code interpretation, corporate income determination, and tax advising. FSU also awards a Master of Accounting with a concentration in taxation.
