Indiana University Majors and Degree Program Options

Indiana University has eight campuses, and the school has teamed up with Purdue University to offer students a wide variety of majors and degree programs. These options include public health, fine and performing arts, women's studies, English, biology, education and philosophy.

Indiana University Overview

Between Indiana University's eight campuses and the school's partnership with Purdue University, students can choose from hundreds of academic programs. The two largest campuses, Bloomington and Indianapolis, offer over 550 and over 350 programs, respectively. While there is some crossover between the programs offered, each campus also offers degrees not available at the other. Indiana University offers both certificate and diploma programs, and individuals can earn associate's, bachelor's, master's, doctoral and professional degrees.

Associate's Degree Programs

Students at Indiana University have a few associate's degree programs to choose from. Here are some of the options for individuals looking to earn an Associate of Science (AS) degree:

Individualized Study Programs

Undergraduates who haven't declared a major can take advantage of the school's Individualized Major Program (IMP). The IMP allows students to select courses from many of Indiana University's departments and schools to create a multidisciplinary major suited to their specific educational and career goals. The IMP is open to students once they've reached the second term of their freshman year. In addition to their major courses, students must complete the required general education courses to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. An Individualized Minor Program is also offered, wherein students pursuing different majors in IU schools can complete 15 credit hours in a cluster of courses outside of their chosen field of study.

Master's Degree Options

At Indiana University, there are many master's degree programs available, including those conferring Master of Arts (MA), Master of Science (MS), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Fine Arts (MFA), Master of Public Health (MPH), and Master of Music (MM) degrees. An example of this program would be students of a biology class working with county and city officials on a project addressing watershed issues.
