Several schools offer information systems administration-related certificate programs in New York. These programs are available in closely related fields, such as information technology, network security, information systems, and cyber security. Students will split their time between classroom instruction and computer laboratories, in which they will practice the hands-on skills demanded by the professional requirements of administration.


Adirondack Community College

Adirondack Community College in Queensbury offers an information technology (IT) certificate program, as well as associate degree programs in information technology and computer networking. The IT certificate program examines keyboarding, business, internet development and computing. Students can choose an area of focus in end user support, application development or business management. Graduates of this program are qualified to obtain CompTIA A+ certification.

Mohawk Valley Community College

Utica-based Mohawk Valley Community College offers a certificate in cybersecurity through the Center for Social Sciences, Business & Information Science. The 24-credit program can be completed in two semesters. Required courses include computer forensics, Cisco networking, internet security and networking. Upon completion of the program, students will have experience working with Unix, Windows and Cisco products. This college also offers an associate degree in computer information systems.

Niagara County Community College

Sanborn is home to Niagara County Community College, another school in the SUNY network. This school offers a certificate in local area networks (LAN), and it can be completed with at least 32 credit hours. Students take courses such as data communications, Unix operating system, computer systems and LAN administration. The program is offered in both a full- and part-time format. Students interested in further education can complete an associate program in computer information systems with courses in computer programming and computer systems.

Pace University

Located in New York, Pace University's Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems offers a variety of advanced certificate programs, including those in information systems and network administration. Both programs' curricula require 15 credit hours. Within the information systems program, students complete coursework in such topics as information systems design, database management and organizational strategy.

St. Joseph's College - New York

Brooklyn is home to St. Joseph's College - New York, where students can complete a certificate in information technology applications in as little as 12 credit hours. Students choose tracks in business, programming or design. Some courses for these tracks include computer programming, microcomputer applications and multimedia applications. St. Joseph's College also offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems.

Ulster County Community College

This college in Stone Ridge offers a network administrator certificate and degree program through its computer and technology division. The 18-credit certificate program explores computer networking and network design. The program is designed to be paired with the associate degree program and prepares students for the Cisco CCNA and Microsoft MCP exams.

Westchester Community College

Another SUNY school with related programs, Westchester Community College is located in Valhalla. This school offers a 24-credit certificate in cybersecurity that covers object-oriented programming logic, computer hardware, networking, information security and computer forensics. Credits earned in this program can be transferred into the school's cybersecurity and forensics associate program.
