Irvine Adult School's Educational Programs

Irvine Adult School, part of the Irvine Unified School District, offers classes to the general public. The school supports adults in developing parenting and employment skills. Classes are held at various locations throughout Irvine.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Adult students participate in alternating levels of ESL classes offered day and evening. Students at multiple levels also have the option of enrolling in English listening and speaking labs.

GED Test Preparation

Adult students take a simulated GED exam and then focus on areas that require improvement through use of a specialized software program. A certified teacher supports students with individualized instruction.

U.S. Citizenship

This class is tailored to individuals taking the U.S. Citizenship examination. Topics discussed include reading, writing and speaking, in addition to basic U.S. history.

Irvine Valley College's Educational Programs

Career Technical Education and Workforce Development programs at Irvine Valley College train adults in job skills. The community college offers over 30 career certificate programs that can be completed within two years. The Career and Job Placement Center assists students in locating internships and securing positions.


Short-term accounting certificates to prepare students for entry-level positions are available for financial accounting, payroll, computerized accounting and income tax. Essential accounting concepts and the use of accounting software applications are emphasized in certificate courses, which can be applied to the associate's degree program.

Administrative Assistant

A certificate of achievement in computer information management is awarded on completion of this program. Students can choose concentrations in word processing or microcomputer applications. The latter concentration includes courses in spreadsheets, image editing and digital publishing, in addition to basic word processing.

Design Model Making and Rapid Prototyping

Adult students in this certificate program use digital technologies to craft models used in a variety of industries. Courses emphasize creative interpretation in the design process and advanced model construction techniques. Classes include 3D design, visualization, modeling and prototyping.

Electronic Technology

Irvine Valley College offers a degree or certificate in electronic technology. Adult students in both programs receive classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory practice analyzing, designing and troubleshooting a variety of circuits and electronic devices.

Brandman University

Brandman University's extended education department offers courses, workshops and seminars that culminate in either a certificate or credits. Subject areas include information technology, health and business.

Legal Nurse Consultant

This course can be completed online and is designed for medical professionals. Students will gain skills to advise firms, insurance companies and medical agencies on legal matters. Course topics include product liability, personal injury and worker's compensation. Registered nurses and physician assistants who complete the program can take the Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC) exam.

Certified Network Technician

This 40-hour Information Technologies program is designed for entry-level computer support workers to prepare for professional certification exams and enhance their basic knowledge of hardware, software and operating systems.

Certificate in Business Communications

This Business & Leadership program teaches students how to develop business documents, such as memos, proposals and catalogs. Courses are self-paced and web-based.
