Bachelor of Fine Arts in Animation

This program begins with courses covering the basics of art history and theory. Additional core required courses include figure drawing, web design and 2D design. The computer animation concentration track, which is the most relevant option for prospective game designers at Jacksonville University, helps students develop skills in 2D and 3D animation, interactive media production and digital imaging. Students also get to complete an internship related to animation and interactive media.

Florida State College at Jacksonville

Florida State College at Jacksonville is a four-year public institution that enrolls more than 30,000 students each year. The School of Digital Media and Entertainment Technology offers two program options for students looking to study game design.

Technical Certificate in Digital Media/Multimedia Production (Motion Graphics/3D)

Of the several technical certificate programs offered, this particular one includes instruction for students seeking training in computer animation and 3D graphics. This program requires 15 credit hours of coursework focused on digital streaming and capturing, computer animation, electronic imaging and digital video fundamentals. The computer animation courses provide students with the skills necessary to successfully execute 3D motion graphics, character animation and rendering. Students have the option to continue on to an associate's program at the college while they complete the program or after they finish it.

Associate of Science in Digital Media/Multimedia Technology

This program allows students to specialize in video production, graphic design, multimedia production or motion graphics. Students take foundational courses in sound, graphics and video editing. Courses useful for aspiring game designers include computer animation, interactive design fundamentals and design strategies. Keep in mind that this program is designed for students who plan on seeking employment upon graduation, and any students hoping to continue their studies at the bachelor's level may need to take additional courses.

The school also offers a game programming course not listed in the program electives that students may want to enroll in after they complete the necessary prerequisite course. This course can teach students about storyboarding, game design strategies, animation programming and game genres.
