Essential Information

Most kettlebell certificate programs are offered as 2-day seminars, usually over the course of a weekend. Prior to enrollment participants must agree to a code of conduct and be in good physical condition.

Once admitted, students first learn basic kettlebell moves, such as cleans and swings, where the kettlebell is lifted over the head with either one or two hands. Other lifting techniques follow, including squats, presses, snatches or the get-up. Also discussed is how to meet a client's fitness needs by selecting the appropriate exercises.

Before graduating, students must pass skills tests by performing the exercises with the correct form and technique. Some programs require candidates to complete snatch tests, where students must lift the kettlebell over their head 100 times while maintaining their arms in a locked position.

Some kettlebell training programs offer advanced training seminars or specialty courses for trainers who have already received their initial kettlebell certification. Special topics focus on how to correct improper movements, perform advanced moves, such as the windmill and pistol, or help clients recover from injury by following a proper training program.

These programs also prepare graduates for optional certification, which is preferred by most employers.
