College of Southern Nevada

The pharmacy technician program at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) only admits 25 students per fall or spring semester. Admitted students will need to submit various immunization and health documents, such as CPR certification, negative drug testing results and health insurance.

Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Achievement

In this certificate program, which takes four semesters to complete, students gain experience working with pharmaceuticals and measuring them to fill prescriptions. Part of the program consists of classroom training, where students learn about pharmacology, which is the study of the function and effect of drugs. Another part of the program consists of labs, where students learn proper mixing and measurement procedures. Courses include pharmacy techniques, pharmaceutical math, pharmacology and pharmacy microcomputers.

Roseman University of Health Sciences

The pharmacy program at Roseman University of Health Sciences is student-oriented and highly focused. Instruction and learning entails direct participation and engagement through real-life experience working in an actual pharmaceutical environment.

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD)

This degree program can lead to an entry-level career as a pharmacist. Students take courses in blocks, allowing them to focus on one content area at a time. Courses are arranged so that the doctoral program only takes three years instead of the usual four to complete.

Coursework within the program has didactic and experiential requirements, which include lecture, lab and practical training through internships. Didactic courses include hematology and immunology, toxicology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacy law, pharmacy administration, biostatistics and clinical trial design, pharmaceutical communications and pharmaceutical calculations. Labs and internships familiarize students with the practical things a pharmacist must know.

This school also offers a dual PharmD/MBA program that may be completed in three years, as well.
