Marketing Career Training in Arizona with College Overviews

Essential Information

Many universities and community colleges in the state of Arizona offer undergraduate or graduate degree programs that cover marketing. While there are associate's, bachelor's and master's degree programs, there are also certificate programs that are designed for short study (about one year or less) of the field so as to enter the workforce quickly.

Marketing may be learned as a single major or within a business degree program. Some master's degree programs have evening schedules, and some can be completed online. Short overviews of 10 of the largest schools with marketing training can be found below, as well as a comparison table with tuition information and individual school offerings.

Arizona State University

Located in Tempe, Arizona State University is a massive institution, enrolling more than 50,000 students in 2015. With satellite campuses across Phoenix as well as distance learning programs, the university is consistently one of Arizona's most popular colleges. The W.P. Carey School of Business offers a few marketing degree options.

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Marketing degree program teaches students the basic functions of marketing and how to successfully apply those to various business ventures. The program includes professional guest speakers, internship opportunities, traditional business courses and marketing seminars. Students learn how marketing works in different industries, including media outlets, government agencies, non-profit organizations and product and service companies. Courses include applied marketing management, marketing research, consumer behavior, competitive marketing strategies and promotion management.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program with a focus in marketing is designed for students with a previous marketing education and for career professionals returning to school to further their marketing knowledge. The program, which requires six trimesters of coursework, covers product and service development, service marketing management and strategic marketing projects. Students must complete a professional marketing project. An online MBA program with an emphasis in marketing is also available.

A doctoral program is also offered, which can be completed in about four years by students who already hold a master's degree. Students can expect to study marketing research design, marketing management, consumer behaviors and marketing models. Seminars in new product development, services science and social psychology are required during the second year of the program. To earn this degree, students must pass a comprehensive examination and complete a dissertation.

Chandler/Gilbert Community College

Chandler/Gilbert Community College offers an associate's degree program in general business, which includes training in marketing at its Chandler campus. The associate's degree program requires roughly 61-66 credit hours and can be completed in two years. Students can choose elective courses in business communication, human relations, quantitative methods and the principles of marketing. This program is designed for transfer to a four-year institution, so students can continue their marketing studies at the bachelor's level.

Glendale Community College

Located in Glendale, this college offers an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Public Relations that can prepare graduates to pursue employment in business, in-house publishing, market research and consumer relations. Required courses include the study of media and society, public relations, the principles of marketing, photography and feature writing.

Mesa Community College

Mesa Community College prepares students for entry-level marketing careers through certificate and associate's degree programs at its Mesa location. The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Marketing requires 18 credit hours and includes courses in public relations, advertising, merchandising and marketing research. The associate's degree transfer program requires roughly 67-72 credit hours. Students who complete the associate's program can continue their studies in the Bachelor of Science in Marketing program at Arizona State University.

Northern Arizona University

Located in Flagstaff, Northern Arizona University offers a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on marketing. Students learn how to identify customer wants, create branding strategies, communicate with target markets and manage supply chains. Courses in accounting, finance and management play a role in the curriculum; however, a number of marketing courses are also required. For instance, students can expect to study consumer behavior, marketing channels and strategic marketing. Graduates are eligible for careers in sales, public relations, marketing research and product management.

Phoenix College

At its Phoenix location, the school offers a certificate and an associate's degree in marketing. The certificate program focuses on the fundamentals of marketing and requires 18 credit hours. Students can expect to learn about entrepreneurship and sales.

The associate's degree program in marketing requires 61-64 credit hours. Students must complete courses in accounting, computer applications, ethics, management, human relations and advertising. Courses in salesmanship, marketing and small business operations are also required.

Pima Community College

Located in Tucson, Pima Community College offers a marketing specialty within the AAS in Business degree program. Required courses include the study of accounting, economics, marketing principles and communication. The marketing concentration includes courses in applied computer graphics, salesmanship, advertising and retailing. An independent study experience related to the field of marketing is also available.

Rio Salado Community College

Rio Salado Community College in Tempe offers certificate and associate's degree programs in general business. Both programs can be completed online. The certificate program requires 21 credit hours, 12 of which are comprised of required courses. Students can expect to study business law, accounting and computer information systems. Electives in marketing are available.

The associate's degree program requires between 61 and 66 credit hours. Students are expected to complete courses in human relations, business law, marketing and business communication. Electives in merchandising, database management, Web development and management are also available.

Scottsdale Community College

This Scottsdale college offers an associate's degree in business with a marketing track. This two-year degree program includes core courses in accounting, computer information systems and management. The marketing specialization requires courses in business calculations, public relations, advertising, salesmanship and merchandising. Graduates are prepared for careers in advertising, sales management, promotions and public relations.

University of Arizona

The University of Arizona is a research-intensive institution based in Tucson. The Eller College of Business places a solid emphasis on global business by offering study abroad programs and extra activities that allow students to get involved outside of the classroom. The BS in Business Administration program with a major in marketing, which can be completed in four years, prepares students to work as marketing agents, advertising representatives and marketing sales associates. Students learn the history and basic foundations of communication, marketing, advertising and message presentation. Courses include business ethics, competitive marketing trends and financial operations in marketing.

The Eller MBA is a two-year degree program that builds business intelligence through a combination of professional seminars and technical business projects. Students, many of whom are working professionals, can choose between full-time, executive, accelerated or evening options. With so many options, students can schedule their degree program around other personal commitments. Courses cover business and leadership, employment orientation, applied business statistics, management economics and financial accounting. Marketing electives include brand management, product strategy and services marketing strategy.
