Essential Information

In Illinois, marketing is offered through programs at the associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Undergraduate and graduate certificate programs as well as degree minors are also available. In addition, several colleges have Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree programs with concentrations in marketing. Students learn about such topics as consumer behavior, global marketing, market research and strategic marketing. The schools listed below are the eight largest non-profit and public universities that offer marketing programs.


DePaul University

DePaul University is in Chicago, and the university offers minor programs in marketing and marketing sales leadership for business and non-business students. The university also has an undergraduate major in marketing. Students will be able to choose a sales leadership or standard concentration, and they can compete for admission to the Integrated Marketing Education honors program. The MBA program has marketing concentrations in general marketing, marketing business development, consumer insights, marketing strategy/planning and strategic global marketing. The Master of Science (MS) in Marketing has the following concentrations: business development, digital marketing, general marketing and global marketing. Students can also complete the MS in Marketing Analysis program.

Illinois State University

Located in Normal, this university offers an undergrad major in marketing, and students will be able to choose concentrations in advertising/promotion, marketing research, services marketing and more. The program also allows students to specialize in professional sales or integrated marketing communication. The university has a MBA program, and students can take electives in marketing. MBA students are required to complete foundation and core MBA courses.

Loyola University Chicago

Loyola University Chicago has a marketing minor program that provides eighteen credit hours of courses. Marketing bachelor's degree students will participate in real case studies, projects and simulations. A MBA program is available, and students can take marketing concentration courses like marketing research methods and international marketing. MBA students are also required to take ethics, MBA core, global perspective, advanced leadership and integrative experience courses. Graduate students can also choose an integrated marketing communications program. Students will learn about consumer behavior, business ethics and sales force management.

Northern Illinois University

Found in DeKalb, this university offers a minor in marketing. Students will learn the basics of marketing, selling and buyer behavior. A bachelor's degree in marketing provides the following areas of study: professional sales, interactive marketing, international marketing and strategic marketing. Undergrad students are required to develop a portfolio. Students will study topics in marketing research, marketing strategy and business communication.

Northwestern University

Located in Evanston, this university has a MBA program with majors in marketing and marketing management. The university offers a PhD in Marketing, and students will need to complete research, doctoral seminars and coursework. PhD students may also specialize in quantitative modeling or consumer behavior. Professionals can complete the executive education programs that provide instruction on the latest marketing developments. A post-baccalaureate certificate in strategic marketing provides an interdisciplinary education on marketing and communication.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale

Southern Illinois University Carbondale has a minor and bachelor's degree in marketing. Bachelor's degree students will learn about the distribution, pricing and promotion of goods. They will also be able to take electives in professional sales, retail management and more. MBA students can take marketing concentration courses in brand management, global marketing and product strategy. The university also offers a PhD program in marketing. PhD students are required to complete research, exams and a dissertation.

University of Illinois at Chicago

University of Illinois at Chicago offers an undergraduate marketing program that is ranked by U.S. World and News Report. The faculty have won awards and published in peer-reviewed journals. The bachelor's degree program in marketing will help students learn about pricing, distribution and marketing principles. MBA students can specialize in marketing, and they will be required to take a marketing management capstone course. PhD marketing students will develop their own market research, complete exams and formulate a dissertation.

University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign

University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign has a bachelor's degree in marketing, and the program provides courses in marketing research and marketing strategy. The university offers a MSBA program with a concentration in marketing. MSBA students may take courses like pricing and product management. The PhD program in marketing will help student develop their research skills in the field, and they will learn about how marketing affects consumer psychology. PhD students will prepare and present research papers in lieu of examinations.
